It's Runway Time

A quickie post for the current Runway Inspired Challenge.

I used the colour scheme and the layering to come up with my card design.

P1230526c

I embossed the free-form rose stamp from Printworks in three colours on three layers that were die cut with a curved edge.  I finished off with a sentiment from Technique Tuesday and added a few enamel dots.

I'm also adding this to the Simon Says Stamp Emboss It Challenge.

Curtain Call

It's my first time playing over at Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge and it's an Anything Goes Challenge inspired by this pic.

I really like this photo and took inspiration from all the white space, the cubbies, the pink and pool colours and the hydrangea on the desk.

P1230416c

I white embossed the hydrangea from Hero Arts and watercoloured it and the background with Distress Markers. The background was done with Embossing Paste and the Mini Cubist Stencil from The Crafters Workshop and the sentiment is Paper Smooches Quote Tag.  I finished off with some ribbon and a cute clothespin.

I'm also entering this for the Simon Says Stamp Emboss It Challenge.

Another Rainbow Medallion

I couldn't resist making one more card for Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday Challenge.

Papertrey Ink Rainbow Medallion

For this card I used one of the butterflies from the Butterfly Kisses stamp set to make my medallion.  I think it's a pretty fun look, though I do like my first card better.  You can check out that one here.

Thanks for all your lovely comments!

PTI Rainbow Medallion

When I saw Dawn McVey's Make It Monday PTI video yesterday I knew I wanted to play along and try making my own rainbow medallion.

PTI Rainbow Medallion

I chose the tree trunk from Through the Trees stamp set and inked it up in a rainbow of colours.  I love how it turned out! I finished off with a sentiment from Stylish Sentiments Birthday and added a few pearls.

I have another image already picked out for my next card and  hope to get a chance to make it.

Thanks for the fun idea Dawn!

Have a great day!

Sharing The Love

I'm Sharing The Love of Distress Inks with a couple of cards for the Winnie & Walter blog.

My first card is for the Ombre Challenge.

W&W Ombre Hello

I used W&W's The Big, The Bold and The Happy cut file for the journaling card and inked it up in Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry and Seedless Preserves. I added some paint specks of Heidi Swapp Gold Color Shine and a few stars from Memory Box.

My next card is for the Stencil Challenge and it is....well....busy and bright. I thought I would mix some patterns and I'm not happy with the outcome but crafting is all about experimentation right?

W&W Stencil Hello

I cut a couple of tags from W&W's Daily Grind Collection: Holiday Mint Add-On. I cut the Diagonal Stripe Journaling Card from  W&W's Cut File Basics vol. 1 to make a stencil and create the stripy lines in Squeezed Lemonade and Festive Berries on the tag.

W&W Stenciled Tags

The "hello" is from the same cut file as the first card and I inked it up in Black Soot, added some sparkle with a Wink of Stella pen and a layer of Glossy Accents.

The background is the Mini Tiny Circles Stencil from Crafters Workshop inked in Peacock Feathers.  I also dyed the seam binding with Peacock Feathers.

Thanks for visiting and hope you manage to get a bit inky this weekend!

The Cutting Edge

It's my first time playing in The Cutting Edge Challenge, but I do have to mention that it is only the 2nd challenge over there. It's a newbie challenge blog so go check it out here and see what it's all about!

Here is the inspiration photo.

Don't you just love the drippy colours!

Here's my take on it.

P1230206c

I watercoloured my background in colours similar to the inspiration project and used Paper Smooches Super 2 Die.  I framed the scene with thin strips of black paper, added my sentiment and a few gems.

I'm also entering this for Paper Smooches Anything Goes Challenge and Virginia's View Challenge #5, use dies on your project.

Runway Inspired Happy Birthday

Today I have a card for the current Runway Inspired Challenge which features this fabulous outfit.

I just love how the colourful flowers contrast against the bold design of the black and white.

I went for a graphic look and created my background by using painter's tape and masking off a chevron pattern and inking it up with Black Soot Distress Ink.

Runway Inspired 63

The Stencil Flower from Hero Arts was white embossed onto watercolour paper and coloured with Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry and Seedless Preserves.  To get the inks to blend I sprayed them heavily with water and one quick spray of Perfect Pearls.

I finished off with a sentiment from Altenew and a few embellishments.

Shake Shake Shake It!

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog

It's shaker time at the Simon Says Wednesday Challenge Blog and I just had to play along!  I think everybody loves getting a fun shaker card, it's such an unexpected surprise!

SSS Shaker Card

I used My Favorite Things Say Hello Transformable Die to create the window and I die cut some Memory Box Puffy Clouds in a couple shades of blue to create the background for the window.

Shaker Closeup

I made a glittery sun using Doodlebug Chunky Sugar Glitter and added a sprinkling of enamel dots.

There's still plenty of time to make a card for the challenge, I'm hoping I'll get to make another one before the deadline.

I'm also entering this in Moxie Fabs Wonderful Words Challenge and Virginia's View Challenge #5 Dies.

Ombre With Winnie & Walter

Winnie & Walter are sharing the love of Distress Inks and have a few challenges on the go.

I made a card for the Ombre Challenge using The Big, The Bold and You cut files.

Ombre Challenge @ Winnie & Walter

The thanks die-cut was inked up with Peacock Feathers Distress Ink, the strip along the bottom was inked with Seedless Preserves, going light to dark, and spritzed with Perfect Pearls and I used a stencil with Seedless Preserves to add some texture behind the sentiment.

I finished off with a few (too many, I think) sequins and Glossy Accents over the sentiment.

Stop by to see the wonderful inspiration on the W&W blog!

Wishing you an inky day!

Bokeh

I thought I'd try my hand at a bokeh card, which seem to be pretty popular right now.

I used the Lots of Dots set from Simon Says Stamp, it's perfect for this technique.

Bokeh

The sentiment panel was stamped in yellows, oranges and reds while the background was stamped with different shades of yellow. Because the background is done from one colour family it produces a very soft and fuzzy look with not much of a distinction between the dots while on the sentiment panel the dot shapes are more pronounced.

Here are a few tricks that I figured out along the way.
  • Starting with coloured card stock helps with the layering and blending of dots.
  • Make sure to layer different coloured dots on top of one another.
  • This works really well with the Hero Arts Shadow Inks or die inks.
  • You can use pigment inks though they are more opaque and can block out colours underneath it.
  • I like to start off with the largest circle, stamp it 3-4 times with one colour, then move on to the next colour. Once I've used all the colours, I switch to the second largest dot and stamp in all the different colours and repeat for all the dots sizes.
  • When I'm done with all my stamping I like to soften it and make it a little more fuzzy by taking Memories White Dye Ink and stamping a few of the larger dots randomly over the piece.
This is definitely a fun and addicting technique, I hope you'll give it a try!

I'm entering this card for the Anything Goes Challenge at Simon Says Stamp.
