Sketch Challenge

There's a sketch challenge over at the Simon Says Flickr Group.

Sketch For SSS Flickr Challenge 8

And here's my take.

SSS Challenge #8 - Sketch

I haven't used Gilding Flakes (metal leaf) in a while so I pulled some out of my stash and used it on the Christmas tree and on the thin strip of paper.  I think that little tree is so cute dressed up in metallics.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Camouflaged Die Cut

The challenge at Papertrey Ink this week is to use a camouflaged die cut.  Laura Bassen has a video and great card showing the technique.

Sue McRae PTI Camouflage Challenge

I started by inking up my panel with Distress Ink in Festive Berries, Ripe Persimmon and Squeezed Lemonade and then spritzing it a few times with Perfect Pearls.  The leaf was die cut once out of the panel and 4 times out of white card stock and adhered together for one thick piece that was fitted back into the negative space.

I think my leaf piece is a bit too camouflaged. I should have stopped my inking sooner so that the leaf would have had some white showing.  Perhaps a redo is in order!

I'm also entering this for Virginia's View Challenge, All Things Distressed.

12 Tags With a Feminine Twist

I'm back with another tag for Ellen Hutson's 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist.  This tag is inspired by Sandy Allnock's tag from day 9 here.

12 Tags with a Feminine Twist

I liked Sandy's sweet winter scene and her colour combo of blue and pink.  I used Distress Paint for my background and added tiny white stars.  The deer and trees are from Impression Obsession and for some sparkle I added Stardust Stickles to the snowy hill.

Ellen Hutson 12 Tags

I have a tag today for Ellen Hutson's 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist Challenge.  My tag was inspired by Julie Ebersole's day 1 tag here.

Ellen Hutson 12 Tags of Christmas

I was inspired by Julie's ombre background, using a wreath and adding touches of gold.  I die cut a WPlus9 wreath in white and gold, added texture to the white piece with an embossing folder and offset the gold wreath behind the white one.  The background was done with Distress Paint and I added a few (too many) gold stars.

Poppystamps & Memory Box Blog Hop

Thanks for hopping along with Poppystamps and Memory Box today. You should be arriving from Sherry's blog. If not, you can start at the beginning here.

The hop takes place from Dec 2-4 and will include daily prizes from Birch Press Design, a company created by Dave, the owner of Memory Box and Poppystamps.  Comment along the way (you have until Dec. 10th) for your chance to win the prize.

We're showcasing tags and treat wrappers for the holidays and I have 3 projects to share today.

First up is a tag full of inky goodness and some sparkle.

Sue McRae PS MB Hop Tag

I used Distress Inks to colour Poppystamps Evergreen Trees and sprayed them with Perfect Pearls for a bit of shimmer.  The sky was also inked with Distress Inks and I used silver embossing paste to add stars and dots with the Memory Box Star Dust Stencil.  For the sparkle I added chunky glitter flakes for my snow bank.

Next up are two treat containers that are very quick and easy to make.  You can fill them with any kind of goodies and use them as stocking stuffers or they would be great to leave on place settings at a Christmas or New Years dinner table.

Sue McRae PS MB Hop Ornament Treat

I used Memory Box patterned paper to make these and added die cuts as embellishments.

Sue McRae PS MB Hop Snowflake Treat

The great thing about these containers (or sour cream containers as they are sometimes called) is you can make them any size, depending on what you want to put in them.  You are only limited but the size of your paper.

Poppystamps Avondale Ornament was used for this container.  With a few gems and some silver twine it was quick to put together.

I used a paper crimper to finish off the ends of the containers and embellished this one with the dainty Stravia Snowflake and red ribbon.

These were hard to photograph so I'm sorry for the weird angles and props that I used.  For info on how to make these treat boxes please visit here.

Your next stop on the hop is Bibiana.  Make sure to leave comments along the way for a chance to win a prize.  For a second chance at a prize, like Birch Press Design on Facebook here and share the post about the hop.  One person who does both will win a prize from Birch Press Design.

Here's a list for today's blog hop.

Have fun!

Sparkle & Shine with Poppystamps

Today I'm here with a card for Poppystamps December Challenge, Sparkle & Shine.

Sue McRae PS Dec 2014 Sparkle Shine Challenge
I decided to make the new Jumbled Birthday Die sentiment the focus of my card.  I die cut 2 layers with white card stock, adhered them together and added the silver sparkly layer on top.  This makes for a thicker sentiment.

Sue McRae Alcohol Ink

For the flowers I used the Small Blooming Poinsettia Die and die cut a bunch of pieces from glossy card stock that I coloured with Alcohol Inks in reds and purples.  I think these cute flowers can be used all year long, not just for Christmas.  Just something to keep in mind to stretch your crafty products.

Now it's your turn to create a project for the Sparkle & Shine Challenge.  Use at least one Poppystamps image or die, and link it up here.  The design we love best will receive our winner badge to display on their blog, and one lucky random winner will receive a prize.  You don't have to have a blog to play.  You can link to any online gallery and the challenge lasts all month long.

I can't wait to see your creations!  Thanks for stopping by!

The Village

I have two cards today showcasing one of my favorite die sets that was released by Simon Says Stamp, The Village.  The five dies in this set are so versatile, they can be used year round, not just for Christmas.

Starry Village

For the card backgrounds I inked up Hero Arts Tiny Star Background and Impression Obsessions Textural Dots with Versamark and applied PanPastels on top. Definitely non traditional colour schemes but I like how they turned out.

Panpastel Village

I added embossed sentiments from Simon Says Stamps Holiday Hellos and Happy Stamp Sets and added Distress Clear Rock Candy Glitter to the trees.

I'm entering these cards for the Simon Says Flickr Group Challenge, Die Cutting.

Thanks for visiting with me today and I love it when you leave me comments.

Fall Leaves

I just had to make one more card for the Simon Says Stamp Tic Tac Toe Flickr Challenge because I wanted to get inky with some stamped leaves.

Here's the Tic Tac Toe Board.  I chose the line on the right with leaves, embossing and glitter.

Fall Leaves

I used Hero Arts Scattering Leaves stamps and Distress Inks to create the background.  The thanks is from a Simon Says Stamp die and I glittered it with Glitter Ritz in Poppy Orange.  I used three dies from the SSS Frames set for all the white die cuts and ran the rectangle piece through my Vagabond with the Cuttlebug Forest Branch embossing folder.

There's a new Clean and Simple Challenge on Virginia's View Challenge and I have debated on whether or not this card qualifies as CAS.  The background is a little busy but I do have a lot of white space so I will enter and Virginia can decide if it falls under CAS.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you get a chance to get a little inky today!
