Birthday Numbers

A card today for CAS-ual Fridays Count Me In Challenge which is to use numbers on your project.
Birthday Numbers
I finally was able to get inky with some Distress Paints.  I really love how these paints mix with each other and create wonderful marbled paper.  I used some of that marbled paper for the background of the hexagons.

I used Salty Ocean, Broken China, Mustard Seed and Picket Fence.  No green paint but love all the green shades that developed from the mixing of the blues and yellow.

I popped everything onto black glossy card stock that I flicked with some of the Salty Ocean Distress Paint. A perfect card for a teenage boy, I think.

I'm also entering this card over at Moxie Fab World's Birthday Card Challenge.

Thanks for visiting today!

It's A Hero Hostess Summer Picnic Hop at Hero Arts

To celebrate all that is wonderful about summer, which for me is the fact that there's no snow (yay), the Hero Hostesses have gotten together for a fun week-long blog hop.

You should be arriving from the blog of talented Hostess Virginia.  If not, please start at the beginning of the hop here at the Hero Arts Blog where you'll find the master list.  If you find a broken link on the hop please report it to blog@heroarts.com.

On a hot summer day one of the things that I think of is a frosty glass of lemonade to help quench my thirst. So to honour that I've made a card with a jar of lemonade.
Hostess Summer Blog Hop
I embossed the jar image onto vellum with silver ink and clear embossing powder and then coloured the back of the vellum with a yellow Copic marker.  I added some silver sequins as my "ice cubes" and created a straw out of washi tape.  And to finish off the drink I glittered my lemon slice for a little added sparkle.

I'm sharing a recipe for Sparkling Lemonade, a drink I have on hand all summer for those who don't drink alcohol, like me.

Sparkling Lemonade

Simple Syrup
2 ½ cups each granulated sugar and water

Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved and mixture becomes clear, about 5 minutes.  Cool to room temperature.

Squeeze enough lemons to make 2 cups of lemon juice (approx. 10-12 lemons).  Combine with the simple syrup and store in glass container in refrigerator.

For lemonade place ice cubes in a highball glass, add  ¾ cup (6oz) of lemon mixture and top off with ½ cup (4oz) of carbonated or sparkling water and serve with a lemon slice.

This is a pretty tart beverage so the ratio of lemon mixture to sparkling water can be adjusted to suit individual tastes.

Hero Arts will be awarding prizes from randomly drawn comments. For a chance to win, simply comment on ANY of the stops along the hop on ANY day, including each day’s starting post at the Hero Club Blog. The more comments you leave, the better your chance of winning!

Now onto Anita's blog.  I can't wait to see her creation!

Thanks for hopping with us today!

Hill Flowers

Love the Hill Flowers silhouette image from Penny Black, a great image for a lot of different occasions. Unfortunately mine had to be for a sympathy card.
Sue McRae PB Hill Flowers Jul 18 2013
For the background I coloured white paper with Distress Inks, sprayed it with Perfect Pearls and flicked on some water.  The flowers were black embossed on top and this was placed behind a window cut with a Spellbinders die. The dragonfly was coloured with PanPastels and I added a bit of sparkle to it with a Stardust pen.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Banner Birthday

A birthday banner card today using some fun images from Penny Black's Embellishments stamp set.
Banner Birthday
Don't you just love the twine stamp with the whimsical bow, so cute.  I used three different images to create patterns on each banner and kept everything monochromatic by using different shades of coral and red.

Hope your day isn't as sweltering as it is here.  It's a good time to stay inside with the air conditioning and be crafty!
